The Banjo Catfish (Bunocephalus spp.) is a fascinating and cryptic freshwater species native to rivers and streams across South America, particularly the Amazon Basin. Named for their flattened, banjo-shaped body, these bottom-dwelling fish are masters of camouflage, often burying themselves in the substrate during the day.
Banjo Catfish are peaceful and nocturnal, becoming active after dark. Their diet in captivity should consist of sinking carnivore pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods.
These hardy fish require minimal care, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Best kept in a peaceful community tank where their shy nature won’t be disrupted.
