The Bumblebee Catfish (Microglanis iheringi) is a small and attractive bottom-dwelling species native to the rivers and tributaries of South America, particularly in Venezuela and Colombia. Named for its bold black and yellow bands, this catfish resembles the iconic bumblebee, making it a visually appealing choice for freshwater aquariums.
First described in the early 20th century, it has become a favorite among aquarists due to its low-maintenance requirements as they tend to thrive in aquariums.
Carnivorous by nature, the Bumblebee Catfish enjoys a diet of sinking pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. It is nocturnal, preferring to stay hidden during the day and becoming active after dark.
