This species boasts an elongated, torpedo-shaped body adorned with large, iridescent silver scales that gradually diminish in size towards the belly. Its most distinguishing feature is the vibrant pink to red tail, complemented by fins that range in color from dark red to pale orange or yellow. A notable dark spot is present near the gill cover, and the upper part of the iris exhibits hues of orange to yellow.
The Pinktail Chalceus is indigenous to the northern regions of South America, predominantly found in the Amazon, Orinoco, and Negro River systems. These rivers traverse countries like Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and Peru.
They accept a varied diet, including high-quality pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods.
