Boesemani Rainbowfish

Boesemani Rainbowfish are native to West Papua, Indonesia, particularly the Ayamaru Lakes region and surrounding freshwater systems of the Vogelkop Peninsula. They inhabit clear freshwater lakes and associated waterways with aquatic vegetation and plenty of open swimming space.

Adults can reach approximately ±10 cm, with males generally becoming larger and more intensely coloured than females.

Boesemani Rainbowfish are omnivores and should be offered a varied diet. High-quality tropical flakes and small pellets can form the staple diet, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia. A varied diet helps promote growth, health and vibrant coloration.

This is a peaceful, active and social schooling fish that should ideally be kept in a group. They spend much of their time swimming in the middle and upper areas of the aquarium. Males may display to one another by intensifying their colours and spreading their fins, but serious aggression is uncommon when they have adequate space and are kept in a proper group.

Boesemani Rainbowfish are relatively easy to care for when provided with good water quality. They appreciate well-filtered, oxygen-rich water, regular water changes and a mature aquarium.

Boesemani Rainbowfish are excellent community fish and can be kept with other peaceful species of similar size and temperament. Suitable tank mates include other rainbowfish, peaceful barbs, larger tetras, peaceful catfish and many community fish. Avoid extremely aggressive species.

Boesemani Rainbowfish are a schooling species, so keeping a few together is strongly recommended. Their colours can appear relatively dull when they are young, stressed or newly introduced, but mature males can develop spectacular coloration. Good water quality & a varied diet are key to keeping these fish healthy and displaying their best colours.
