The Threadfin Acara Cichlid (Acarichthys heckelii) is a graceful and peaceful species known for its elongated, flowing fin rays and shimmering body. This elegant cichlid adds a touch of beauty and calm to any tropical setup and is popular among aquarists for its striking appearance and gentle temperament.
Native to the Amazon River Basin in South America, primarily found in slow-moving rivers and tributaries with sandy or muddy bottoms.
Threadfin Acaras are relatively hardy and thrive in a well-maintained tank.
Omnivorous. They do well on a varied diet of high-quality pellets, flakes, live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and even blanched vegetables.
Grows up to 15–20 cm in captivity.
Known for being mixeable, they can be kept in community tanks with other South American Cichlid species. They do well in groups or pairs but require enough space to establish territories.
Threadfin Acaras are admired for their pearl-like scales, elongated trailing dorsal and anal fins (hence the name), and their overall graceful swimming pattern. Males typically develop more extended filaments and slightly brighter coloration.
