The Blue Thai Silk Flowerhorn Cichlid is a rare and visually striking hybrid cichlid, prized for its metallic blue sheen and bold, aggressive temperament. Bred through selective crossbreeding, this fish is not found in the wild and originates from Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia.
This hybrid cichlid is a man-made species developed by crossbreeding various South American cichlids, including Trimac and Red Devil cichlids. The Blue Thai Silk variety was specifically bred for its vivid iridescent blue scales.
Flowerhorns require a tank with stable water parameters, and high-quality filtration. They prefer temperatures between 26°C–30°C (depending on ambient temperature) and a neutral to slightly higher pH. Regular water changes and tank maintenance are essential.
They are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. Feed them high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen foods (like bloodworms and krill), and occasional vegetables. Avoid overfeeding to maintain water quality and health.
Mature Blue Thai Silk Flowerhorns can reach 30–35cm in length.
Known for their territorial and aggressive behavior, especially toward other fish. Best kept alone or in a species-only tank unless breeding. They are highly interactive and can recognize and respond to their owners.
These fish are known for their intelligence, vibrant appearance, and distinct personality. The Blue Thai Silk is a favorite among aquarists and those looking for a true centerpiece fish.
