Red Shoulder Peacock Malawi / Red Empress Peacock Malawi

The Red Shoulder Peacock Malawi, also known as the Red Empress Peacock, is a strikingly colorful cichlid species native to Lake Malawi in East Africa. Known for its vivid red, orange, and electric blue coloration, this fish is a favorite among hobbyists for its beauty.

Lake Malawi, Africa — typically found in rocky areas and open waters where they graze on algae and biofilm. Provide rock formations for hiding, and open swimming areas. Clean, oxygen-rich water is essential.

Omnivorous. Best fed a high-quality cichlid pellet, spirulina-based foods, and occasional frozen or live treats such as brine shrimp or bloodworms. Ensure a blanched diet to prevent bloat.

Males can grow up to 15–18cm, while females are slightly smaller.

Semi-aggressive, particularly during breeding. Males can become territorial, especially in smaller tanks. Best kept with other Malawis, Haps and Peacocks 

Adult males develop bright red shoulders and vibrant blue faces, making them true centerpieces in any aquarium. Females remain more subdued in color but are elegant in their own right. Their flowing fins and shimmering scales catch the light beautifully in a well-lit tank.
