The Albino Compressiceps Malawi, also known as the Albino Malawi Eye-Biter, is a unique and captivating African cichlid species originating from Lake Malawi. Known for its elongated body and flattened profile, this fish has striking red eyes and a pale, pearlescent body, giving it a ghostly yet beautiful appearance in the aquarium.
Native to Lake Malawi in East Africa, specifically found in rocky shoreline areas where it ambushes smaller fish.
- Requires good filtration, plenty of hiding spots, and stable water conditions.
Carnivorous. Feed high-quality pellets, frozen foods (like brine shrimp, krill, or bloodworms), and occasional live foods for variety. Ensure that you include some veggies to help with digestion.
Can grow up to 15–18cm in captivity.
Territorial and semi-aggressive, especially during breeding. Best kept with other robust Malawi cichlids. Avoid housing with small or slow-moving fish.
This albino variety is especially rare and eye-catching. Its deep-set red eyes and compressed body give it a distinctive, predatory look. Despite its aggressive nickname, with proper tank mates and conditions, it thrives in a well-managed cichlid tank.
