The marble goby is a widely distributed species of sleeper goby native to fresh and brackish waters of the Mekong and Chao Praya basins, as well as rivers and other water bodies in Thailand. It is highly popular among the Chinese community due to its fine texture and tasty white flesh, and is believed to have healing properties.
The Marble Goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) is a large, nocturnal freshwater predator native to Southeast Asia, including the Mekong and Chao Phraya basins, as well as rivers and other water bodies in Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indochina, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Known for its marbled brown and beige coloration.
