Iron is an essential element required in metabolic processes, protein synthesis, and growth of corals and macroalgae. Iron supplementation can enhance coral and macroalgae growth and color – particularly yellow and green colors in corals. In systems supported with nitrogen and phosphorous supplementation, iron utilization rates may be increased as iron assists in assimilation of nitrogen.

Supplementing with Seachem Reef Iron provides a safe means of increasing iron concentrations. Ideal iron levels will vary but natural seawater generally ranges from 0.003–0.01 mg/L iron. Reef aquariums are often kept at higher levels for optimal coloration and growth. For optimal macro algae growth, many find 0.05–0.1 mg/L to be beneficial. Use Seachem Reef Nitrogen, Seachem Reef Phosphorus and Seachem Reef Potassium to maintain optimal nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium levels.
